What's New

Taking a walk on the beach never fails to inspire me.

This past Sunday's visit to Jekyll Island was no different.
I must have taken close to 100 reference photos that day, becoming more excited to get to my studio with each click of the camera.

Like many areas in the Southeast, we've had a hard time lately. Hurricane Irma came and went, leaving a lot of us feeling pretty emotional.

Our beaches were battered in the storm and undoubtedly have a different appearance now, but the beauty remains.

For me, the feeling of peace that comes from a simple walk on the beach can't be taken away by a storm or anything else. Maybe that's why the only compositions I am dreaming of these days are ones that allow me to share that feeling. I hope I have captured just that in my latest painting, "Peace".

About Jo Elliott

It's not all about me.  Many thanks to my husband for his encouragement.

Jo Elliott
Jo is an artist from Brunswick, Georgia who
works primarily in watercolor on paper. Her work has been exhibited and collected throughout the southeast where she has gained widespread recognition for her colorful landscapes. Jo is a member of the Georgia Watercolor Society, Jekyll Island Arts Association, Glynn Visual Arts and Oak Grove Island Artists Guild.
Artist’s Statement

I grew up in Greenville, Ohio in a home where art and music were never in short supply. My dad taught drawing and painting in a local art guild and I was fortunate to be invited to tag along. After retiring to coastal Georgia in 2005, I continued my studies with other gifted artists. My painting style seemed to evolve on its own and could be described as mostly realistic, sometimes impressionistic. While anything that grabs my attention can become a painting, I am continually drawn to an irresistible subject: water. My paintings of rivers and creeks, beaches, boats and birds are a reflection of the beauty surrounding me. Frequent travels to Maine and Ohio also provide inspiration for my paintings.
